THE BULLOCK MUSEUM IS LOOKING FOR 2 MUSEUM APPRENTICES

Salary: $16.00 per hour; 40 hours per week.

The Museum Apprentice is an entry-level position that works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position is designed for individuals with a strong commitment to enhance existing, and/or building new skill-sets to establish a career within the Museum profession. The apprentice’s time is split equally between the Visitor Services department performing the duties of a Visitor Services Representative (VS Rep) and one of several Museum departments, depending on the successful candidate’s skills and professional interests: Communications, Registrarial, Curatorial Research, Exhibit Tech and Production, or Education programs.

THE BULLOCK MUSEUM IS LOOKING FOR AN EDUCATION PROGRAM SPECIALIST

Salary: $21.44 per hour; 25 hours per week (PT)

The Education Programs Specialist (EPS) serves as a critical member of the Education Department, and supports program initiatives with school, family, and adult audiences. The EPS is responsible for carrying out the Museum's education programs, including supporting all aspects of the scheduling, on-site logistics, and overall experience of the Museum's group visit program to ensure a smooth and meaningful visit for all groups. The EPS also assists with planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for student, family, community, and adult audiences. The EPS facilitates informal engagement opportunities in the Museum exhibition galleries, primarily serving the Museum's student visitors, but also interacting with the general public. The EPS should be outgoing, love to work with people and kids of all socioeconomic levels. The EPS demonstrates successful interactions with kids in a calm manner.

THE BULLOCK MUSEUM IS LOOKING FOR A THEATER TECH

Salary: $3,466 per month (FT)

Theater Technicians report to the Head of Theaters with additional guidance from the Deputy Director of Operations. Theater Technicians safely operate theater systems and equipment to provide museum visitors with a superior theater experience. Technicians work under general supervision to maintain equipment and systems, and operate shows with minimal direction provided by the Head of Theaters while demonstrating sound and visual technical knowledge, mechanical skills, initiative and sound judgment. Works collaboratively with other Museum departments, assisting in operation of theater presentations when necessary and facilitating special programming for internal and external events and programs. Displays a professional, respectful, and service-oriented focus when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public. THE BULLOCK MUSEUM IS LOOKING FOR A RETAIL INVENTORY AID

Salary: $35,360 per year (FT)

In this position, the Inventory Aide reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for implementing efficient strategies for the management and control of inventory. You will assist the Manager and other agency personnel in training Sales Clerks and other division staff on the basic principles of inventory control. You will work within tight and/or competing deadlines and in highvolume seasonal environments. Duties include sales and customer service training as well as receiving inventory and inventory management. Demonstrates a high level of initiative and resourcefulness working collaboratively as required, under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs routine (journey level) inventory and or retail work.

TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION, HISTORIC SITES DIVISION IS LOOKING FOR A CHIEF EDUCATION SPECIALIST!

The Historic Sites Division’s Chief Education Specialist is an inspired creator of high-quality education, program, and evaluation materials and an enthusiastic talent manager who will oversee the creation and delivery of galvanizing, thought-provoking programs rooted in primary sources and based on the interpretive frameworks for 37 historic sites. The Chief Education Specialist will be knowledgeable about U.S. and Texas history and committed to new educative strategies to engage visitors across the lifespan, with a focus on teachers and students. Working closely with the Chief Interpretive Specialist and Coordinator of Community Engagement, the DOE will oversee the translation of broad interpretive themes and work with Historic Sites staff on the creation of guidebooks, exhibit material, interpretive programs, and will oversee interpretive training and certification of field educational staff and assist Site Managers in the creation of special events, camps, and fieldwork. Under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Executive Director for Historic Sites, the Chief Education Specialist in the Historic Sites Division (HSD) at the Texas Historical Commission (THC) is a strategic thinker and experienced planner who performs advanced (senior level) leadership, consultative, and collaborative work. This includes framing the agenda for educational experiences and programs with and for THC Historic Sites across the state. Working in partnership with Division’s Chief Interpretive Specialist, Director of Historic Site Operations, Community Engagement Coordinator, Chief Curator, and Communications Coordinator, and HS Director of Earned Revenue, the Chief Education Specialist influences, coaches, informs, guides, and evaluates learning outcomes of education programs and educational exhibition components for audiences across the lifespan – onsite, offsite, and online. The Chief Education Specialist administers, fully conceives, and updates the agency’s Virtual Learning Portal through the development of content from contributors at historic sites and throughout the agency. Work under general supervision, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION, HISTORIC SITES DIVISION IS LOOKING FOR AN INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST - PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND INTERPRETIVE WRITING

Salary - $60,000

Perform highly complex (senior-level) project and contract management, interpretive writing, and research, and provide consultative services and technical assistance to Texas Historical Commission (THC) program staff. Work involves interpretive planning and interpretive writing for broad aspects of the THC Historic Sites Division (HSD), reviewing existing plans, exhibits, and information; assisting in the development of priorities and budgets; working with exhibit design firms, publication firms, and other consultants in project management and interpretive writing, to include assistance in vendor firm selection, contracting, project management, closeout and warranty issues; review all HSD interpretive text for accuracy as part of a team to assess overall visitor experience. Work under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

BAYOU BEND COLLECTION AND GARDENS, MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS HOUSTON

Job Description: Docent Programs Manager

The Bayou Bend Docent Program Manager works with volunteer members of the Bayou Bend Docent Organization (BBDO), who provide tours and interpretation to the public of Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens (BBCG). Bayou Bend, which showcases the early American decorative arts collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in the 1920s home of collector Ima Hogg, uses period room settings to display its collection and docent-guided tours and activities are a primary interpretive method for the spaces. Docent interpretation draws on American history, art history and material culture as well as the history of Texas, Houston, and the Hogg family.

The BBDO, formed in 1961, today includes approximately 200 active docents and an 18-member board and meets regularly. Bayou Bend works extensively with the BBDO, and a great deal of daily interaction and a high volume of communication is required between the docents and key staff of BBCG.  The Docent Program Manager works closely with the Head of Education, the Programs Manager, the Visitor Services Manager, the Education Department’s Program Coordinator, and department interns, as well as with the docents, especially docent leadership.
