Step into a replica of the U. S. Senate Chamber and talk to Lyndon Johnson – actually visitors will get the opportunity to interact with an actor (Michael Stuart) who looks, dresses, and talks like U. S. Senator Lyndon Johnson as he was in the 1950s. The exhibit Bills, Bills, Bills: Lyndon Johnson as Senate Majority Leader highlights important legislation of the era, including Civil Rights and the creation of NASA. On Museum Day at 11 a.m., Senator Johnson will read Mr. Jellybean to children. Mr. Jellybean tells a special story about Lyndon Johnson and a classroom of Head Start students in Stonewall, Texas. Mexican American Cultural Center

Visit Austin’s newest ultramodern venue, the Mexican American Cultural Center located on the edge of Town Lake near central Austin. On exhibit in the Main Gallery, Hacia La Vida (Toward Life), a retrospective of the work by artist Carlos Rivera Pineda. Mexic-Arte Museum will present its 12th annual Young Latino Artist exhibit curated by Angel Quesada. The exhibit will feature the work of Latino artists younger than 35 years of age from Texas. Also, on exhibit in the Multi-Purpose Corridor, the Serie Project presents serigraphs (silk-screen) prints by artists who create work in a medium they may not otherwise have the resources to explore. |
Mexic-Arte Museum

Come view the United States premiere of From Revolution to Renaissance: Mexican Art From the Aaron Collection. This extraordinary Modern Mexican Art collection focuses on the works made between the 1890’s-1950’s, (a span of time purposefully coeval with the birth and death of Diego Rivera.) Hands on activities will be provided for the public in correspondence with self portraits of the exhibit. Guest speaker at 2:00 pm, James Oles is an assistant professor of art at Wellesley College, where he teaches Latin American Art, focusing on the history of Mexican art from the ancient through modern eras. |
