Education Intern

Texas Archive of the Moving Image

Salary: Unpaid

Hours required: Part-time, negotiable

Location: Onsite (May include some optional travel)

Description: Internship for course credit during Summer 10 and/or Fall 10 semester. The intern will assist the Education and Outreach Coordinator in creating and updating the TAMI educational resource guide. Tasks will include creating lesson plans and worksheets to address TEKS, presenting informational about TAMI to educators, working with teachers to use the TAMI online library in the classroom, and promoting the online library to primary and secondary schools. May include some optional travel around Texas.

Qualifications: Have an interest and/or background in education, museums, history and media. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, responsible and energetic and Knowledge of Texas history is helpful.

Collections Management Intern

Description: The intern will assist with cataloging all aspects of digital collection items, from digitization metadata to subject cataloging. The ideal candidate should have strong research skills, a sound understanding of cataloging principles, be detail-oriented and have the ability to focus on the task at hand. A background in libraries and archives, or information science is preferred; interest in Texas history is helpful. Familiarity with FileMaker Pro is helpful but not required.

Work Hours: Internship begins in the Fall 10 semester. Hours are negotiable, for 10 – 20 hours/week. Flexible hours on Mon – Fri between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have strong research skills, a sound understanding of cataloging principles, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to focus on the task at hand. A background in libraries and archives, or information science is preferred; interest in Texas history is helpful.  Familiarity with FileMaker Pro is helpful but not required.

Research and Subject Cataloging Intern

Description: Intern will conduct significant research and/or subject cataloging of specific media collection. The ideal candidate will have sound understanding of cataloging and subject indexing and strong research skills.  Background/interest in Texas history and media history is a plus.

Work Hours: Internship begins in the Fall 10 semester.  Hours are negotiable, for 10 – 20 hours/week. Flexible hours on Mon – Fri between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Public Relations Intern

Location: Onsite (May include some optional travel)

Description: Internship for course credit during Summer 10 and/or Fall 10 semester. Intern will assist the Education and Outreach Coordinator in publicizing and promoting the Texas Archive of the Moving Image and the Texas Film Round Up. Activities will include composing and distributing press releases, maintaining a database of press contacts, contacting press, creating content for the organizations website, creating promotional materials and other various tasks related to the marketing and promotion of the organization. May include some optional travel around Texas.

Qualifications: Have an interest and/or some experience in public relations, museums, history and media.  Experience writing press releases or similar materials. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial and energetic.  Knowledge of Texas history is helpful.

Digitization Intern

Description: The intern will assist with all phases of the Texas Archive's digitization process, from film preparation to file transfers. The ideal candidate should be familiar with proper film handling and general archival practices. Training on specific procedures, equipment and software will be provided.

Work Hours: Internship begins in the Fall 10 semester.  Hours are negotiable, for 10 – 20 hours/week. Flexible hours on Mon – Fri between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Qualifications: Familiarity with proper film handling and general archival practices.  A commitment for both the Fall 10 and Spring 11 semesters is strongly preferred.

Description:  Internship for course credit during Summer 10 and/or  Fall 10 semester.  The intern will assist the Education and Outreach Coordinator in researching topics related to Texas moving image history, developing exhibits, updating website content, organizing educational programs, maintaining a contacts database, publicizing and promoting The Texas Film Round Up, contacting partners and participants, and maintaining files. The intern will also assist in the management of special events.   May include some optional travel around Texas.

Qualifications:  Have an interest and/or background in museums, information science, education, history and media.  The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial and energetic. Knowledge of Texas history is helpful.
