November 8, 2011
Michael Sieben and Sam Prekop
Opening Friday, December 9, 2011, 7pm to 11pm, at 607 ½ Genard Street
The exhibition runs through January 14, 2012, and will be available for viewing 12pm – 5pm on select Saturdays (12/10, 12/17, 1/7, 1/14) and by appointment.
Those familiar with Sam Prekop’s music will recognize his art from the album covers of his influential and widely acclaimed band, The Sea and Cake, and his solo records. He has released 13 albums in 20 years and is internationally recognized for his explorations of pop, jazz, electronic, and Brazilian music. His exhibition at Tiny Park will feature drawings, paintings and photographs. Like his music, his visual art demonstrates a strategic restraint and focus on the subtle qualities of mood and atmosphere.
The characters populating Michael Sieben’s work seem to bear the weight of (some very heavy) experience, but maintain an almost ridiculous optimism in the face of disaster and absurdity. For his exhibition at Tiny Park, Michael will show new drawings and sculptures.
