Lecture: Hermione Lee

Hermione Lee, biographer of Virginia Woolf, Willa Cather, Edith Wharton, Penelope Fitzgerald, and Tom Stoppard (currently underway), talks about her experiences pursuing her subjects through their archives. She describes the accidents and surprises of a biographer’s quest, from embargoed letters in a Nebraskan bank to water-stained books rescued from a sunken barge in the Thames, from the spell cast by Woolf’s diaries to a Wharton deathbed discovery in an Italian villa.
