Nothing defines culture like food. Personal and societal, food delineates our heritage, ethnicity, and memories. How food gets from farm to table, how it is processed or engineered, and access to healthy food are changing our relationship with food in the 21st century. Join ATX LASER for a look at the culture of food through the lenses of art, science and technology from local creative practitioners.
Metcalfe is the founder & Executive Director of The Food Lab. The Food Lab provides awareness of food issues, encourages and motivates students to engage with innovative food systems research, and provides support to startups that leverage university research.
Igor Siddiqui & Jen Wong
Siddiqui is an architect, artist, and design educator. He is an assistant professor at The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, and principal of the interdisciplinary practice ISSSStudio established in 2006.
Wong is director and curator of the Materials Lab at The University of Texas at Austin, a multidisciplinary resource center with a primary mission to promote material investigation in design.
Daniel “Asiago” Heron
Daniel Heron, more commonly known as “Asiago” is the Chief Engagement Officer at Cooking Up Cultures, Organizer of Food + Tech Austin, and Advisor to various food related initiatives.
Malghan is an artist based in Austin and Baltimore who works in multiple mediums including photography and film.
