Landmarks Public Art Program

Landmarks Video presents Ja’Tovia Gary's An Ecstatic Experience, 2015. The work will be on public view daily throughout the month of October from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the ART building atrium, located on the corner of East 23rd Street and San Jacinto Boulevard. Videos are accessible to all and free to view.

Back to Basics with John Mark Luke, Joyce Stephen and guest artist Nina Mihm. October 3-30 Reception: October 4, 5-7 p.m. John Mark Luke mixes organic with metal object in his art and Joyce Stephen finds light in her abstract paintings. Guest artist Nina Mihm weaves a patchwork of poise and peacefulness. The Old Bakery and Emporium is proud to have part of the AVAFest on display in October and November.

Preetika Rajgariah: Wild, Wild Country

Women & Their Work

In Preetika Rajgariah’s exhibition Wild, Wild Country, culture, capitalism, and classism collide on the yoga mat. Through sculpture, video, and performance, Rajgariah explores how this spiritual practice with deep roots in Hinduism has proliferated into nearly every subculture of American society. Fascinated by yoga’s popularity but also its dramatic transformation, Rajgariah calls attention to yoga’s long history, its profound spiritual origin, and the nuanced line between appropriation and appreciation.

Homeschool Day at the Science Mill

Science Mill

The Science Mill monthly Homeschool Day focuses on careers in chemical and environmental engineering! In hands-on activities, students can make include floating art, see “chemistry in a bag” demos, and write invisible ink secret messages. Age-based Learning Labs include making chromatography butterflies, testing the chemistry of soap on “dirty ducks” and creating edible water bottles. Plus, students can explore the museum’s 50+ unique exhibits and see “3D Sun”.  Admission: 0-2 years old – free, 3-18 (or with student ID) $9.50, Adults $11, Seniors (65+) $9 and Military $5.50. Educators’ Night at Thinkery


You’re invited, educators! Mix, mingle and kick off the 2019–20 school year at this FREE Thinkery Educators’ Night Educators’ Night in collaboration with Austin Museum Partnership. Educators’ Night features opportunities for educators to play in our galleries, connect with colleagues, discover other local museums, and learn more about our hands-on, STEAM-focused educational programs and resources. Wear your school spirit and come ready to play! School teachers, administrative staff, and informal educators are all welcome to attend this FREE event. Ready for refreshments, door prizes, and tons of fun? Stay tuned for more details on registration and programming! Parking near Thinkery is available at the McBee Street District Garage, with entrances off McBee Street and Robert Browning Street. Please note, Thinkery cannot validate parking in the McBee Street District Garage for special events or programs occurring outside of our General Admission operating hours, including Educators’ Night. Bat Bazaar at the Science Mill

Join the Science Mill on October 19 for the battiest, bazaar-iest day of learning and fun. Find out why bats are one of our area’s most beneficial native mammals! Southern Wildlife Rehab will have their Bat Cave full of unique exhibits--like bat guano, skeletons and more--and two special presentations with live bats. Special hands-on activities include navigating like a bat with a sonar simulator challenge and much more. Visitors who dress up in their Halloween costumes will receive FREE Excavation Kits from the museum’s Science Store! The Science Mill will be open 10am-4pm.  Admission: 0-2 years old – free, 3-18 (or with student ID) $9.50, Adults $11, Seniors (65+) $9 and Military $5.50.
