TalkAbout: the Sun

Women & Their Work

Held in conjunction with the exhibition, Good Luck with the Sun, join us for a conversation about solar events, timekeeping, and photography with artist Krista Steinke and her musical collaborator + brother, Matt Steinke. TalkAbout is a program that facilitates conversations with artists and the people who inspire them. This event is free and open to the public. Krista Steinke is a lens-based artist whose work explores how the natural world impacts our lives in ways that are both obvious and more mysterious, and photography’s role in mediating that experience. Matthew Steinke is an American artist and composer working with robotics, sculpture, and animation. His sonic narratives and musical experiments take the form of audio recordings, videos, performances, and installations. His invented instruments combine electromechanical engineering and acoustic design for both composed and improvised performances.

Margaux Crump | The Lure

Women & Their Work

Opening Reception. For The Lure, Margaux Crump debuts a body of work that explores gender and the natural world through the lens of power relationships. Using the idea of hunting and courting both literally and metaphorically, her sculptures, drawings, and photographs trace the complex movements of power between entities. Materials like sparkling salt licks, golden fishhooks, sex-safe silicone, and fluorescent minerals come together in unfamiliar ways, drawing us in while blurring the boundaries between predator and prey; human and animal; masculine and feminine. Exhibition on view through July 26, 2018.
