Capital Metro has a weekend bus route that provides passengers
with a safe, easy way to travel between Austin's many cultural,
historic and outdoor attractions. Bus route 470, also know
as "Tour the Town," runs every 30 minutes on Saturdays
from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m.
Tour the Town starts at the LBJ Library on the University
of Texas campus, winds through campus, past the Capitol, and
through downtown. From there, the route crosses the Congress
Avenue bridge into South Austin, travels the length of Barton
Springs Road to Mopac, and finally loops back up Congress,
through downtown and back to the UT campus.
Museums along Tour the Town include the Bob Bullock Texas
State History Museum, the Texas Memorial Museum, Mexic-Arte
Museum, the Austin Museum of Art, Austin Children's Museum
and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden. Passengers who find themselves
hungry or thirsty will appreciate Tour the Town's drive past
restaurants, coffee houses and bars along the drag at UT,
down Sixth Street, and through "restaurant row"
on Barton Springs Road. For those who want to enjoy Austin's
outdoors, Tour the Town will make stops at Zilker Park and
its Botanical Gardens, the Austin Nature Center and Barton
Springs Pool.
One-way fare for Tour the Town is the same as for other fixed
route services: $0.50 per passenger, or for just $1 you can ride all day. Read more at http://www.capmetro.org/riding/tourthetown.asp
